There have been many things said about satellite TV that are simply just not true. Here we'll attempt to address the most common Satellite TV Myths and explain why they should not be believed.

Myth #1: "I can't get local channels with satellite."
Yes, you can. With DISH Network packages, local channels are available in over 95% of all areas in the U.S. You can watch your favorite network shows on CBS, NBC, and FOX on your satellite TV.

Over 93% of all subscribers are eligible for DIRECTV® local channel programming. Select markets will also receive HD local channels for the sharpest picture and best sounding audio. Watch ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS and other channels where available at no extra charge.

Myth #2: "My signal will go out in bad weather."
Satellite TV customers enjoy reliable reception (rain or shine), year round, nationwide. If there is a problem with reception, it will likely be fixed in a matter of minutes, not days or weeks like cable. Both DISH Network and DIRECTV® have 24/7 customer service to assist you.

During extreme rain or snow, some satellite customers may experience a temporary loss of picture quality, if too much water from rain or heavy wet spring snow accumulates on the dish or on the low noise block converter (LNB). If this happens, the signal usually returns as soon as the snow melts or is brushed off the dish.

Strong winds may also affect the signal if they are so strong that they knock dish out of alignment, but we've had satellite customers write to tell us that they kept their signals even through a hurricane.

Myth #3: "I can't afford all that fancy equipment."
You don't have too. There's no equipment to buy! Currently DISH Network is offering a satellite system for up to 4 rooms at no cost. DIRECTV® is offering a satellite TV system for up to 4 rooms at no cost.

Myth #4: "No way can I install a satellite dish on my roof!"
You don't have to lift a finger. Whichever satellite TV provider you choose, they will send out a professional to install your system for you (free of charge). In many cases, next-day installation is available.

Myth #5: "Cable is 'digital' now, too."
Not so. Even so-called "digital cable" vies you some analog channels. Satellite TV delivers crystal-clear, 100% digital-quality picture and sound on every channel.

If you like High Definition viewing, then check out DISH Network. DISH Network now offers the most HD programming on the market, with over 1,700 hours of HD programming per week - which comes to over 200 hours of HD viewing a day. DISH Network offers a variety of high definition television channels such as theater-quality movie channels, educational and nature programming, PPV HDTV satellite movies, and HDTV satellite broadcasts of special events, including concerts, boxing matches and professional sporting events. Ask your local cable company if they can beat that!
